笑話

由芝加哥開始

金融海嘯令大家心情沉重，愁眉不展。是時候苦中作樂，輕鬆一下。今時今日，最適合拿經濟學家開玩笑。以下笑話來自互聯網，就由罪魁禍首芝加哥學派開始：

Q: How many Chicago School economists does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None. If the light bulb needed changing the market would have already done it.

Q: Why did God create economists?
A: In order to make weather forecasters look good.

Q. What's the difference between economists and businessmen?
A. The first don't keep their feet on the ground; the latter use to keep their four feet in the ground.

Q. What's the difference between an economist and a befuddled old man with Alzheimer's?
A. The economist is the one with the calculator.

An economist is a trained professional paid to guess wrong about the economy.

An economist is someone who doesn't know what he's talking about - and make you feel it's your fault.

An economist is someone who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

An economist is someone who gets rich explaining others why they are poor.

To an economist, real life is a special case.

Making a speech on economics is a bit like pissing down your leg. It seems hot to you but never to anyone else.

美國總統 vs 經濟學家

對待經濟學家，其實無須太認真。他們只不過是一群不通世務的學院蛋頭 (Egghead)，當中又不乏脫離現實、盲從教義的「原教旨主義者」（又名「基要派信徒」，英文 Fundamentalist），自以為擇善固執，替天行道。除非他們要取你性命，否則犯不著跟他們一般見識。外國政要都懂得避重就輕，拿他們開玩笑，打個哈哈應付過去，美國總統杜魯門 (Harry Truman, 1884-1972) 和列根 (Ronald Reagan, 1911-2004) 都是好例子：

Harry Truman, an American President, pleaded “Give me a one-handed economist! All my economists say, “On the one hand...on the other.”

Ronald Reagan, caught the public mood as usual by describing economists as unworldly “people, who see something work in practice and wonder if it would work in theory.”

肥彭 vs 羅祥國

末代港督彭定康（Chris Patten, 1944-）亦精於此道，九七前他在立法局中面對經濟學家羅祥國的質詢，是這樣說的：

Dr. Law Cheung Cheung-Kwok told Chris that he had not assessed productivity accurately...The Governor retorted:

“I don’t have the advantage of belong to what I think is called “the gloomy profession” – I am not an economist. I also accept what was implicit in the honourable gentleman’s view that if you have 10 economists in a room you have 10 different views.”

肥彭的答案是典型的英式冷嘲，明褒暗貶，同我玩？你未夠班。肥彭是政壇老手，身經百戰。他又是保守黨文膽出身，擅長拋書包，要玩弄一個傻兮兮的經濟學家簡直易如反掌。換了煲呔，恐怕只會左兜右兜耍官腔，言不及義帶你遊花園，全程仲要黑口黑面，俾面色你睇。

肥彭所引用的“the gloomy profession”（憂鬱的專業）是岀自一位英國維多利亞時代的作家 Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881)。這位作家形容經濟學是一門“dismal science”（令人沮喪的科學），因為經濟學家總是作出“gloomy predictions”（悲觀的預測）。

李國章 vs 林毅夫

回歸之後的本地政客中，夠膽在公開場合拿自由主義經濟學家開玩笑的，記憶中只有外號「阿瑟王」、「打機局長」的李國章。今年四月一日（愚人節）世界銀行高級副行長、首席經濟學家林毅夫（此君在芝加哥大學取得博士學位，身世非常傳奇）在香港的中文大學發表英語演說，李國章（曾任中大校長及醫學院院長）是座上客，在左丁山（香樹輝）的筆下，兩人有以下的對答：

．．．李國章問：「林教授講到經濟發展與政府政策、思潮（ideas）有關， 但當 ideas 與 public opinion 有衝突時，如何解決？」林教授知道呢條問題係棉裡針，立即講：「我地經濟學家當自己係傳教士（preacher），周圍講道而已。」果然係高手過招，完全唔上身。李國章素來識得幽默，未問之前已經講左一句： 「我自己唔識經濟學，我聽人講，經濟學係普通常識，以常人不明白之語言表達之！」 英文原文好似係 economics is just common sense presented in a language that nobody can understand），引起哄堂大笑。

英式貴族教育非常著重培養詞鋒，在適當的時候拋個笑話出來，可以四両撥千斤，不但令對方無言以對，同時亦可以博得滿堂彩。肥彭和李國章，一個牛津，一個劍橋，在大英帝國的最高學府學得一身上乘的修辭功夫，這些行走西方上流社會必備的基本功，中國人學校是不會教的，它只會叫你好好學習，天天向上，將來貢獻國家，做個有用的人。

中國人缺乏幽默感，而且得失之心極重，怕開罪人被秋後算帳，不敢隨便開玩笑。李國章家世顯赫，不怕開罪人（事實上他的確得罪人多）。他又是醫學博士，而且是外科，外科醫生經常要替病人開刀，有時打開腹腔之後，發現情況比想像中複雜，又或者已經無法救治，要立刻做非常困難的決定。做外科醫生，必須學會舉重若輕，手起刀落，見血封喉。因此，性格特點往往是當機立斷或者剛愎自用，李國章就是一個好例子。當你試過直接或者間接地殺人，開別人玩笑絕對是輕而易舉。

打落水狗？

如果你是高官富豪的幕僚清客，間中要為老闆寫講辭，以上笑話最適合在官商雲集的場合作為開場白，又或者在午餐會的甜品時段中引用，觀眾本來就討厭經濟學家，會笑得很開心，外國人反應猶佳。過去不少高官和商家眼見本地的主流中文傳媒（尤其是壹傳媒）以及大學裡面遍佈自由主義經濟學家，好漢不吃眼前虧，不敢開罪他們。如今芝加哥學派開始失勢，過去高舉自由市場旗幟的財經評論員開始失去自信，私底下懷疑自己是否押錯注、讀錯書。如果你過去受了他們不少閒氣，心思思想打落水狗的話，是時候了。
