「進階版」求職須知 (Part 7)

以下內容來自專業人士社交平台 LinkedIn,同樣是外國人對假招聘和假面試的觀察和評論,收集時間是最近幾個月。

From LinkedIn

Dear Companies,

Please remove JOB VACANCIES posted if you are currently not HIRING. It’s a complete waste of our time preparing and sending out resumes for "phantom jobs." Job searching is emotionally draining and this only gives us false hope. Leaving these postings up just to collect resumes is not cool. Put yourself in our shoes. Just be honest and transparent by letting us know you have frozen hiring. Only advertise for live jobs. Show empathy and respect and we look forward to one day to work for such an organization as yours.

Sincerely,
Jobseekers

A: So many phantom job postings... Some seek applicants for certain positions for years using same ads over and over.

B: That's very true, they are just taking advantage of us. They have no idea of how it feels to give someone false hope and LinkedIn has done nothing about it...it’s a shame.

C: I agree totally, and this is not just an extra strain for job seekers, but also typically very demotivating for the HR team as well. And the best way to start demoralizing your company is by demoralizing your HR team.

D: I don’t know what’s the idea toying with people emotions it’s already a tough situation out there giving false hope to unemployed individuals who lost their job during this pandemic outbreak. To me such a behavior is really twisted and unprofessional.

E: You truly highlighted a two-edged problem that adversely affects job seekers and recruitment agents.

F: Absolutely agree with you, many fake job vacancies or recurrent posts with the same job position that is on hold for months. Please stop such misleading postings, this is definitely disrespectful for job seekers!!

G: Linkedin looses credibelity when this happens!! I know numerous seekers who applied to at least 50 and not 1 reply… so if there aren’t hiring, why are they posting?

H: Couldn’t agree more, there’s a role on LinkedIn I’ve seen that’s been ‘actively recruiting’ for THREE months!

I: I would add, if you have set up an "Easy Apply" you can set up an "Easy Reject" - (LinkedIn should actually create this as a product). I get that there might be 400 applicants but they have the email address of all of them, it would take 5 minutes to create one Email, BCC to everyone "Sorry, you haven't been successful this time". People can handle the rejection, it's the radio silence that sucks - and it's downright rude!

J: The true fact that most companies would advertise for jobs after they have already finalized candidates for them through internal announcement and employee relationships. Why? Because hiring has been executed based on "who do you know" rather than "what do you know".

K: Agree 100%, I am really fed up with such posts of fake Job posts, or those who call you for interview on next day they tell you sorry post is cancelled or filled up. If it is filled up or cancelled, who you call for interview in the 1st place?

L: After the excitement of finding a vacancy that feels like would be the perfect fit, to then realise it is just a fake bait, is so disappointing and demotivating. So many of those out there…

How to Spot Fraudulent Job Listings

Extract: With global economies trying to rebound after the effect of COVID-19, employers and companies have adjusted to the current situation. For many organizations, with cautious optimism in reopening, the recruitment process has shifted completely online.  Most of the recruitment processes — from sourcing candidates to onboarding and exit stages — is now online. This has created an opportunity for fraudsters to explore. Knowing that job seekers are sometimes desperate for a new job, fraudsters see this as a green market. What this means is that people will let down their guards and practice less due diligence.

Here are seven tips for job seekers when searching for a position online:

  1. Ensure that the job looks legitimate.
  2. Do your due diligence
  3. Check LinkedIn.
  4. Use an alternate email address for your job search.
  5. Call friends and family and check local forums to ask about a company.
  6. Know your rights.
  7. Report to authorities.

Auntie 的補充:我告訴這篇文章的作者,問題的根源不在求職者身上,所以他的文章只能解決部份的問題,他這樣回覆:This is true - there is a power play here. However, recruitment experts (here, I mean the serious ones) themselves also recognize this and suggest creating a 'double' of your identity. On the upside, the trusted recruiters and job sites have more work to do to increase their credibility and due diligence. On the downside, after receiving so many rejections, job seekers are ready to surrender all to the other side. Sadly so.
